Meryl Streep shocked Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday night by letting her grandchildren hear the voices of the characters she plays while reading books to them.

“Can these kids hear you read to them?” Kimmel asked during a conversation Thursday night, referring to Streep’s grandchildren. “Oh, sure. Yes, I read that.” [my daughter] Louisa is 34 now,” Streep replied, before adding with a laugh: I read it to her when she was in the third grade. When Kimmel asked if she would voice any of the characters in the book, Streep enthusiastically replied, “Of course!”

“I heard you’re playing a character, too,” she said to Kimmel, to which Kimmel responded, “I heard you’re playing a character, too.” one character. Only Hagrid does it. That’s the only character I play, and sometimes I accidentally play Hagrid when other characters are talking…I’m not you. Let’s do that. ”

Streep said with a laugh, “I’m just trying to imagine Snape like this.” [Hagrid]” She began telling Kimmel in a gruff voice, “I’m Hagrid!” The late night host quickly responded: “Oh, that’s good Hagrid. Better than my Hagrid.”

Kimmel began the interview by asking three-time Oscar winner Streep how old her grandson is. The actress and The Devil Wears Prada 2 star recited her age, revised it several times, and finally settled on 7-5-4-4-3-3-1. In response, Kimmel joked, “Call that number. I think I just accidentally gave out my Social Security number.”

“Are you a nice grandma?” Kimmel asked Streep.

“I don’t know. Hmm…I think I’m a little like Miranda Priestley as Grandma,” confessed the Oscar winner, referring to the overbearing magazine editor she played in both The Devil Wears Prada films. Her answer shocked Kimmel, who asked, “Oh, really?”

“I like rules, dear,” Streep explained. “I like rules,” Kimmel jokingly asked, “Have you ever fired your kids?” to which a laughing Streep sheepishly replied, “No, but you know…”
