KARACHI: Advanced connectivity, artificial intelligence and 5G could play a central role in accelerating Pakistan’s digital economy, Ericsson said in a statement on Friday, when policymakers and investors met at the European Union-Pakistan Business Forum in Islamabad.

The two-day event brought together government officials, technology companies and investors to explore investment opportunities and deepen economic cooperation between Pakistan and the EU.

Representatives from Sweden’s telecommunications equipment manufacturer said in roundtable discussions and keynote sessions that next-generation networks and AI-driven infrastructure have the potential to drive productivity gains in sectors such as logistics, energy, mobility and financial services.

The discussion highlighted connectivity as an economic driver, with implications for competitiveness, private sector growth and digital inclusion. Ericsson Pakistan President Aamir Ahsan, speaking alongside the Federal Minister of IT and Telecommunications, pointed out the need for public-private partnerships to scale up digital transformation. He said policy support, timely spectrum allocation and investment-friendly frameworks will be key to unlocking the benefits of 5G and AI.

Ericsson also spoke at the forum about network technologies aimed at supporting new business models and improving operational efficiency across the industry.
