Queen Camilla and First Lady Melania Trump participated in a joint engagement this week as part of the royal couple’s visit to Washington, D.C.

On Tuesday, April 28, the 78-year-old queen and the 56-year-old first lady met with a group of young students at the White House tennis pavilion, News.Az reported, citing People.

Students set up educational displays in groups to demonstrate how they are using artificial intelligence and virtual reality technology in their learning. This cross-cultural event was in the spirit of First Lady Melania Trump’s technology initiative “Growing the Future Together.” American students were encouraged to use AI glasses to explore artifacts from both the US and UK, and VR headsets allowed them to ‘visit’ iconic locations such as Snowdonia, Giant’s Causeway, Stonehenge and the exterior of Buckingham Palace.

“Today, students from all over the world can visit places of historical significance to learn about the past and be inspired,” the first lady said in a report on the event. “Our children no longer need to hop on a plane to experience history. Through VR and AI, they can have a fundamentally richer and more memorable educational experience than ever before.”

Queen Camilla and King Charles are in the midst of a four-day visit to the United States this week, which began with their arrival in Washington, D.C., on Monday, April 27th. The couple were greeted by First Lady Melania Trump and President Donald Trump for a private tea before attending a large garden party at the British Embassy.

Thankfully, Tuesday’s outing with Melania Trump was a bit more low-key, with the queen relatively admitting she was “a bit jet-lagged” after a long transatlantic flight.

While in Washington DC, King Charles will make history as the second British monarch to address a joint session of Parliament. (The late Queen Elizabeth II also gave a speech on Capitol Hill in 1991.) The king and queen will also attend a state dinner hosted by the Trumps on Tuesday night, but Tuesday’s outing isn’t the first time Camilla and Melania have attended a joint event. In September 2025, when they visited the UK as state guests of the United States, they worked together to tour two areas of Windsor Castle.

The Queen first guided Melania through an exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Queen Mary Dollhouse, the world’s largest and most famous dollhouse. They also visited the castle’s historic Royal Library. The library houses a vast collection, including treasures such as Charles I’s annotated Second Folio of Shakespeare.
