YouTube is currently testing an AI-powered search tool that will give users a new experience featuring conversation-like interactions with the streaming app’s search feature.

The feature is currently available to YouTube Premium subscribers in a testing phase, and this chatbot-like experience provides both text and video results.

YouTube tests AI-powered search tool in Premium

YouTube revealed on its premium membership page that it is currently testing new features for its platform that go beyond traditional search and offer a first-of-its-kind AI-powered search tool.

This new approach is focused on providing users with more than just what YouTube offers: rich, high-quality content from a variety of brands, creators, influencers, and more. Consider Google Search’s AI mode feature on YouTube. However, we also prioritize providing the best video results for our users, so we focus on the strengths of our streaming platform.

Currently limited to YouTube Premium subscribers 18 and older in the United States who use English as their search language.

Text and video results with chatbot-like searches

According to a report from CNET, the latest tests will offer different types of search results on the platform than what users are accustomed to.

YouTube search results now show both short videos and regular YouTube video uploads for users to choose from, and non-premium accounts are set to see the same results.

However, this is different for premium users who are about to take part in the test or who have already taken part in the test. Premium users who participated in the test will see search results with a text explanation of what they searched for. Based on the results, you can get short and long videos.
