Qatar attends IPU General Assembly in Istanbul focused on peace, AI and parliamentary reform

ISTANBUL, April 17 (QNA) – The 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly continued for its second day in Istanbul with the participation of the Shura Council of Qatar State.

The Qatari delegation, led by Chairman Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, participated in discussions with parliamentary leaders from around the world centered on “nurturing hope for future generations, ensuring peace, and ensuring justice.”

The Committee’s meeting covered a variety of issues, including social development and the rights of persons with disabilities, the use of artificial intelligence in parliamentary work, and post-conflict peacebuilding mechanisms.

At the Democracy and Human Rights Committee, His Excellency Sultan bin Hassan Al Davit Al Dosari together with parliamentarians discussed a draft resolution on strategies for inclusive social development and the empowerment of persons with disabilities, as well as proposals to modernize parliamentary work using AI tools.

In a parallel session, His Excellency Ahmed bin Hitomi Al Hitmi joined members of the Peace and International Security Committee to take part in the consideration of proposals on the creation of effective mechanisms for post-conflict reconstruction and the realization of sustainable peace.

His Excellency Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al Maliki participated in a meeting of the United Nations Affairs Committee to consider the Parliament’s role in strengthening the United Nations’ engagement on the ground.

The Shura Council also participated in a meeting of the Association of Parliamentary Secretaries-General, where officials discussed strengthening parliamentary operations, increasing cooperation and sharing best practices.

This discussion is part of a broader effort within the IPU to modernize parliamentary institutions and strengthen their role in addressing global political and social challenges. (QNA)
