Qlik adds AI agents to turn analysis into action

Qlik has expanded its agent analytics service with new features across Qlik Answers, Discovery Agent, and MCP Server, as well as new agents for prediction, automation, and analytics development. This release aims to widen the path from questions to action.

This update adds several tools to Qlik’s existing analytics and AI portfolio. Qlik Answers remains the main interface, combining structured analysis with unstructured content, while the Discovery Agent monitors the data space and flags any anomalies or changes that may require attention.

This release also includes Automate Agent, which lets you use natural language to trigger workflows in other systems, and Predict Agent, which builds machine learning models, generates predictions, and interprets results. Analytics agents have also been expanded to support analytics development tasks and insight generation.

MCP Server enables third-party AI assistants to use Qlik analytics in their decision-making processes, and gives users access to Qlik calculations and business context through the assistants they already use.

Qlik has also extended the semantic layer to add shared business definitions for measures, dimensions, and relationships, allowing analytical applications, Qlik Answers, and external assistants to function with the same business meaning.

Qlik says adoption of the agent experience has been increasing since it became generally available in February. Most Qlik Cloud accounts with agent tools are actively using them, and Discovery Agent has uncovered over 100,000 discoveries for customers since its release.

The announcement comes as software suppliers and customers face pressure to prove that AI tools can do more than answer questions on their own. Companies are increasingly looking for systems that fit into their existing workflows and produce output that can be executed within their operational processes.

Qlik CEO Mike Capone made this claim in the company’s launch statement.

“The bar for enterprise AI is very high. It’s not enough to produce fluent answers. AI must understand the business in context, execute on a trusted basis, and connect insights to action in the systems teams already use. This is how organizations can create value without increasing vulnerabilities, lock-in, or spending.” said Mike Capone, CEO of Qlik.

Qlik positions releases around a broader set of tasks: detecting changes, investigating causes, predicting likely outcomes, and triggering actions. By combining these steps within one managed system, we argue that analytics can be further leveraged in day-to-day business operations.

Workflow focus

This release focuses on workflow. Discovery Agent is aimed at identifying early signals in your data, while Predict Agent is aimed at forward-looking analysis. Then, when you automate agents, their results are linked to the execution of workflows in downstream systems.

This makes extensions as focused on operational use as on the analysis itself. Rather than treating AI as a separate layer, Qlik seeks to embed AI directly into the analysis-to-execution sequence.

The Analytics Agent, on the other hand, is intended for users who create reports and analytical output. It supports development and creation tasks and can extend beyond its previous use around surfacing insights.

A semantic layer is also part of this operational approach. Shared definitions are intended to reduce inconsistencies between applications and AI tools, especially when multiple systems utilize the same data but have different interpretations of terminology.

Customer perspective

One customer cited by Qlik noted that trust is difficult to maintain once AI moves beyond demonstration and into production.

“What stands out here is that we focus on the parts that are usually difficult after a demo, so teams understand what’s important, understand why it’s important, and take action without losing trust. For organizations looking to leverage AI in their day-to-day operations, the combination of inference, prediction, and workflow follow-through is where the conversation needs to be,” said Charles (Cal) Link, senior director of data and analytics at Reworld.

Our latest enhancements reflect that approach by linking analytics, AI inference, and workflow actions within the same set of products.

According to Qlik, Discovery Agent has led to more than 100,000 discoveries for customers since its general availability in February.
