Guwahati: In desperation, the Congress party resorted to cheap politics by using AI-generated videos as evidence to accuse Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family of corruption. At a press conference held in Delhi, Congress leaders accused Assam CM Sarma and his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma of having invested hundreds of billions in the US. In addition to these charges, Congress leaders accused CM Sarma’s wife of having three passports from three different districts.
Congress leader Pawan Khera showed some photos of these passports and CM Sarma revealed that they were generated by AI. “Pawan Khera’s press conference today reflects the deep discontent and panic within the Congress party. At a time when Assam is resolutely moving towards its historic mission, such desperate and baseless attacks only expose their sinkholes,” CM Sarma wrote on his X handle.
Condemning the accusations made by Pawan Khela, CM Sarma said, “I categorically reject all allegations made by him.” These are malicious, fabricated and politically motivated lies aimed at misleading the people of Assam. He also said he intended to file criminal charges against Congress leaders. “My wife and I plan to file both criminal and civil defamation proceedings against Pawan Khera within the next 48 hours. He will be held fully accountable for his reckless and defamatory statements.”
CM Sarma further said, “I have full faith in the judiciary.” If the truth is proven in court, Pawan Khela will face the consequences of his actions and the law will take its due course. Reiterating his faith in the people of Assam, he said, “The people of Assam will not be fooled by such propaganda.” We remain focused, determined and confident of securing a decisive mandate of over 100 seats.
Crushing Congress propaganda and exposing its gross contradictions CM Sarma said the document circulated by Congress leaders showed multiple glaring contradictions, suggesting shoddy and inadequate attempts at digital manipulation.
Last Name Discrepancy: The document shown to Khera uses “SARMA” instead of the official “SHARMA”. Additionally, the photo appears to be a publicly available image and not the standard biometric capture of a passport shown by the Congress party. Interestingly, there are many anomalies in UAE IDs that appear in passports. The ID sequence does not match the expected birth year pattern and nationality mismatch and is listed as Egypt, but the MRZ reflects a different country code.
Antigua and Barbuda passport expiry date is inconsistent between print field and MRZ. Similarly, the Egyptian passport number does not match between the printed field and MRZ. There is also a misspelling (‘Egyptiann’) and an incorrect Arabic reference. The QR code on the title deed appears to be invalid and does not resolve to any genuine record in the document shown by Pawan Khera. CM Sarma said these discrepancies strongly indicate the possibility of fabrication or digital manipulation and the truth will prevail. Those who spread false information will be held accountable. “We are confident that Pawan Khela’s false campaign is coming to an end. Eventually, Khera will be sent to jail,” CM Sarma added.
