At the heart of the update is Veo 3.1, which lets you turn text and images into short video clips. With a free Google Account, you can generate up to 10 videos per month, each approximately 8 seconds long. This is a clear push to get more users to try out AI video tools.

Here’s how to create free videos using Google Vids.
First, open Google Vids in your browser and create a new project. You can enter a prompt to describe the video you want, whether it’s a quick promotion or social media clip, or you can upload an image and let the AI build a video around it.
Enter your input and Veo 3.1 generates a ready-to-use clip within seconds, eliminating the need for filming or manual editing.
Google is also expanding its AI avatar tools. You can customize your avatar by changing its appearance, costume, and background while maintaining a consistent voice and identity across scenes. For those on paid plans, Google is adding AI-generated music through Lyria 3, with tracks ranging from short clips to longer audio.
There’s also a new Chrome extension that lets users instantly record their screen without opening the vid, useful for tutorials and quick presentations.
Once your video is ready, your upload will be set to private by default and you can export it or publish it directly to YouTube.
