American men’s ice hockey player Brady Tkachuk distanced himself from an AI-powered White House video that appeared to disparage Canadians, saying, “Those words would never come out of my mouth.”
The video, published on the White House’s official TikTok account after the United States defeated Canada to win the gold medal at the Winter Olympics on Sunday, is marked as using artificial intelligence.
The video includes edited footage of Tkachuk’s remarks during last year’s quadruple game press conference where Canadians booed the American national anthem.
Tkachuk is quoted as saying: “They booed our national anthem, so I had to come out and teach the people who eat maple syrup.” [expletive] lesson. Canada, we own your little brother. ”
“It’s obviously fake, because it’s not my voice and my lips aren’t moving,” Tkachuk, captain of the Ottawa Senators, said after appearing in Team Canada’s first NHL game since the Olympics.
“I don’t control those accounts,” he added. “There’s nothing I can do because I know those words will never come out of my mouth.
“That’s not what I said. I would never say that. That’s not me. I think that’s why I don’t like that video.”
The White House has been contacted for a response.
