According to the accounting platform, the partnership will allow small businesses and their advisors to access real-time financial insights and act on those insights across both platforms without having to switch tools.

The company said its Claude-powered AI assistant JAX (Just Ask Xero) automates tasks across accounting, payroll, and payments, such as tracking unpaid invoices and creating financial reports.

It is also expected to analyze revenue and profit performance, track cash flow and recommend actions as part of what Xero describes as a move towards more automated or agent-based workflows.

In a blog post announcing the partnership, Xero said the goal is to move beyond static reporting to more immediate decision-making.

“SMBs and advisors don’t just need data; they need digital partners who act on data,” the post says.

The partnership will enable customers to bring Xero data into Claude.ai for analysis and business planning. The companies said this could include combining financial data with external market trends and internal plans to model scenarios such as hiring decisions and year-end positions.

The move comes as Xero and other SaaS companies face increasing pressure to demonstrate how they can benefit from advances in AI, rather than risk having parts of their subscription models replaced by increasingly sophisticated tools.

Xero said customer data shared between platforms is only used within a specific session and not used to train Anthropic’s models.

The rollout is expected to take place in the coming months, and the announcement comes ahead of a visit by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to Sydney, where the company plans to open a local office.
