TUPURAM: The Kerala Police has initiated legal action after an AI-generated video allegedly depicting the Prime Minister and constitutional authorities, including the Election Commission of India (ECI) in a misleading and defamatory manner during the ongoing assembly election process went viral on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). An official statement said this was reported through institutional channels, including information from the ECI. After review, authorities found that the video could mislead the public, undermine the credibility of constitutional institutions, and have the potential to adversely affect the conduct of free and fair elections. The State Police Cyber Operations Division, acting in accordance with the Model Code of Conduct and relevant legal provisions, acted swiftly to curb the spread of the content. A legal notice has been issued to the intermediary platform for immediate removal of the material in accordance with the provisions of the IT Act and relevant regulations. A case has been registered at Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Crime Police Station against the X account identified as Laxmi N Raju (@valiant_Raju) and other persons involved. Police said an investigation is underway to determine responsibility and take action in accordance with the law. The Kerala Police reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and said it will continue to take prompt, lawful and fair action against any attempt to interfere with or influence elections. The public is urged to exercise caution and avoid creating, sharing or amplifying unverified or misleading content, especially during election periods.
