TikTok’s Chinese parent company ByteDance has reportedly paused the release of its new video generation model, Seedance 2.0.
According to The Information, the move follows copyright disputes with major Hollywood studios and streaming platforms.
ByteDance announced in February that it would take precautions against intellectual property misappropriation in Seedance 2.0 after receiving threats of legal action from various studios.
Last month, Disney accused the company of using its characters to train AI-powered models without its consent.
ByteDance, which officially unveiled its cutting-edge AI-centric model in February, said the system is intended for use in professional cinema, e-commerce and advertising, highlighting its great features and potential.
Seedance 2.0 received a lot of attention after being compared to DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company that is developing models comparable to Anthropic and OpenAI.
Notably, the next model has received overwhelming praise from technology executives, including Elon Musk.
According to The Information, ByteDance was preparing to make it available to customers around the world in mid-March, but the company has now scrapped those plans.
ByteDance’s legal team is currently preparing to detect and resolve potential legal issues, and engineers are adding safeguards to prevent models from generating content that could lead to further intellectual property infringement.
ByteDance has not yet officially confirmed this report.
