Mission SOAR Nagaland and State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) organized a one-day workshop on March 13 on the role of artificial intelligence in education and textbook innovation.
According to a press release issued by NagaEd, the workshop was an opportunity to think about how innovation can be used in the service of something deeply human: better education, stronger institutions, and richer learning experiences for all children. Participants came together to explore how AI can support academics, improve office productivity, and enhance the development of quality learning materials in thoughtful, practical, and educationally aligned ways.
The session introduced participants to real-world and emerging applications of AI in academic institutions. These include the use of AI in academia, tools to improve workplace efficiency, and how AI can support syllabus design, textbook design, and textbook development. The day also included a demonstration of Sakhee, a custom AI application developed by mission partner Shikha Institute to support the production of high-quality textbooks in collaboration with NCF and NEP. The program concluded with a discussion about the structure of the school leadership course and future action steps.
Mission SOAR Nagaland is a collaborative education transformation initiative led by the Ministry of School Education and supported by Elevate Foundation. Mission SOAR’s core is to build an agile, inclusive and high-performing education system in Nagaland, rooted in identity, responsive to change, and committed to supporting the growth of all learners.

“This workshop was meaningful because it helped us see AI not as an abstract concept, but as a practical tool that can support academic and organizational activities. What is encouraging is that these tools have the potential to be used in ways that improve quality, enhance processes, and ultimately meet the needs of learners more effectively,” said Daniel Tong, Head of IE and ICT at SCERT.

SCERT Deputy Director Temjenmenra added, “The use of AI has improved the quality of our work and enabled us to move things forward with better planning and support management through better management and strategies. It was especially beneficial in the way we used AI to frame lesson plans for our classrooms.”
“Our goal with Sakhi is to support the creation of high-quality curriculum materials that are rigorous, relevant and in line with the national framework, as students in Nagaland are entitled to the best. We believe that technology can play a powerful role in this process if guided by sound pedagogy, a clear learning vision and sensitivity to context,” said Karishma Shanvi, Director, Shikha Institute and Mission SOAR Consortium Partner.
This initiative reflects Mission SOAR’s belief that the future of education must be shaped by intention, not just innovation. Bringing together technology, pedagogy and system strengthening, this workshop was another step towards a future where children in Nagaland are supported by a system that is more creative, more capable and more responsive to their aspirations, the press release added.
