Anthropic wants to use Claude even as President Donald Trump tries to force the company out of Washington.
Now, the company says it has made it easier for new users to move their history from another LLM to Claude. Anthropic originally offered users the ability to import data in October, but the updated interface is “significantly improved,” an Anthropic spokesperson told Business Insider.
All you have to do now is copy and paste the pre-written prompts into another chatbot.
“Switch to Claude without starting over,” the new dedicated landing page says, adding that the process can be completed in less than a minute.
“You’ve spent months teaching another AI how to work,” the page says. “Just because you want to try something new, that context shouldn’t disappear. Claude can import what’s important so your first conversation feels like your 100th.”
The overhaul shows how aggressive Anthropic is trying to promote itself amid an explosion of outside interest after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei refused to back out amid a standoff with the Pentagon.
Claude is currently the most downloaded free app on Apple’s App Store, surpassing OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.
Amodei said Friday that the AI startup was unable to reach an agreement with the Pentagon based on two exceptions Anthropic argued would limit the use of its AI models to deployment in fully autonomous weapons and mass surveillance of U.S. citizens.
Hours later, OpenAI signed a contract with the Department of Defense to deploy its AI models, which sparked a backlash among some users.
In response, President Trump slammed Anthropic, calling it “woke” and calling for all federal agencies to block its use. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who moved to formally designate anthropic as a supply chain risk, said the Pentagon would not back down.
“America’s warfighters will never be held hostage to the ideological whims of Big Tech,” Hegseth wrote in Friday’s X. “This decision is final.”
Anthropic called the supply chain risk designation “unprecedented,” especially since Hegseth has indicated that anyone doing business with the Department of Defense will no longer be able to work with Anthropic. The AI startup said Hegseth did not have the authority to impose such a broad ban.
“No threat or penalty from the Department of the Army will change our position on domestic mass surveillance or fully autonomous weapons,” the company said in a statement. “We will challenge the supply chain risk designation in court.”
