Asansol: Gabbar Singh, pack of dogs, ‘Didhi Bai’. When a prominent lineup of world leaders, CEOs and AI experts signed the New Delhi Declaration on AI Implications at the AI Summit last week, little could have imagined that the technology was already having an impact in the poll-bound state of West Bengal.
The dates for the state’s parliamentary elections have not yet been announced, and no political party has announced the names of their candidates. However, the election campaign has already begun in earnest. And it’s being fought virtually on your phone’s screen using AI-generated video.
In the Pandaveswar assembly constituency in West Burdwan district, on the outskirts of the industrial city of Durgapur, workers from rival political parties, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), are already violently attacking their perceived rivals.
Anticipating a repeat of sitting MLA Narendranath Chakraborty, local TMC activists are busy visiting various areas and doing publicity work while the MLA starts developmental activities. Local Bharatiya Janata Party workers have assumed that former MLA Jitendra Tewari will contest again from Pandaveswar (he lost to Chakraborty in 2021) and are attacking TMC MLAs by highlighting injustices in the area.
TMC floods social media with AI videos
But that’s not the end of the story. The poll battle is currently hitting social media, with both sides attacking each other with AI-generated satirical videos, drawing laughs from residents. To begin with, TMC aired a number of videos depicting Jiten as the film’s infamous highwayman Gabbar Singh. Sholai.
In another video, Jiten can be seen running away in fear of being chased by a pack of dogs. In other photos, he is seen prostrate at the feet of party leaders to be allotted a ticket, and is also seen being called “khabol”, a derogatory name in Bengali that suggests stupidity.

Former fashion designer and Bharatiya Janata Party’s Asansol Dakshin MLA Agnimitra Paul is also not saved. She has been teased for not knowing the names of the roads and clubs she has been visiting lately as part of her activities. BJP launches rival Gabbar
Now, the BJP supporters are starting to catch up. They released a copycat AI video mocking Chakraborty, also known as Gabbar Singh, and in turn threatened to stop the disbursement of funds under the state government-run Lakshmir Bhandar scheme.
Denying the use of AI, Jiten Tewari said, “We have not directed anyone to make such AI videos. However, we do not have complete control over party workers and supporters who make videos for election campaigning. Personally, I will not post photos and videos of sand and coal stealing tyrants like Naren Chakraborty from my personal social media handle.”
For locals, this video gives a feeling of returning to the old cartoon days. They enjoy watching and sharing sarcastic cartoons in the midst of election campaigns. For them, sharp humor will always be appreciated and will probably win.
