The Technion-Israel Institute of Technology has been ranked the best university for computer science and artificial intelligence research in Israel and Europe. It was ranked 21st in the world, according to an index released by CSRankings on Monday.
The index is created using the number of peer-reviewed conference papers presented by Technion researchers at the world’s leading computer science conferences between 2005 and 2025, highlighting the Technion as one of the leading institutions for AI research and development.
The institute was ranked among the top 10 most important universities for research in machine learning, a subfield of artificial intelligence.
The Technion explained that this achievement was possible thanks to its extensive community of researchers consisting of more than 150 experts from different faculties working in different areas of AI research and development.
“This international recognition is a result of our long-term strategy to advance AI research at the Technion and our significant investments in the field,” said Professor Danny Raz, Senior Executive Vice President at the Technion.
“Hundreds of faculty are applying advanced AI-based methods in a wide range of fields, including data science, medical research, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, architecture, and biology, and we believe this trend will continue to grow,” he added.
Technion’s AI research results were primarily translated into commercial applications using T3, Technion’s technology transfer arm, the institute said in a statement.
Among the most important is Firefly Neuroscience (Brain Health), founded by Dr. Shaf Goded and going public in 2024. DECI AI (Deep Learning). Founded by Professor Ran El-Yaniv and acquired by NVIDIA. and Autobrains (self-driving cars), founded by Professor Yehoshua Zeevi.
Other important companies founded by Technion graduates include Barcode Nanotech (internal particle delivery for therapeutic purposes) founded by Professor Avi Schroeder, PickCommerce AI Robotics (robotics) founded by Professor Elon Limon, Nol8 (data processing) founded this year by Professor Mark Silverstein, and Metacyte Diagnostics (bioinformatics) and SleepAI (sleep research) founded by Professor Tomer Shlomi.
