As reported by Digital Health, hospitals across the UK are increasing their use of artificial intelligence systems that listen to consultations and draft clinical notes in real time, with the aim of easing administrative pressure on frontline staff.
Launched in the US last year, Oracle Health’s Clinical Note AI is now available to all customers in the UK and is already being used by more than 300 organizations. This technology relies on ambient voice recognition to capture conversations between clinicians and patients and automatically generates structured notes to reduce time spent on documentation.
Early adopters in the UK include Barts Health NHS Trust, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, who are expanding implementation of the system following the pilot phase.
Robin Carney, an emergency medicine consultant at Milton Keynes University Hospital, said the tool had changed the way she worked. “We’ve improved the accuracy of our notes and gained a lot of time back,” he said, adding that he can now complete letters to patients before they leave the department.
The UK rollout comes as Oracle commits $5bn (£3.7bn) over the next five years to expand its cloud infrastructure and services in response to growing demand in the UK market.
