A Hanoi man has been fined for using artificial intelligence to create a fake video of himself riding a giant python on Hoan Kiem Lake, but authorities said the action tarnished the image of the city's historic buildings.

According to reports, the Hanoi Police Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention Division identified the person as a 50-year-old resident of Tan Xuan District. Lao Dong newspaper.

He was charged with “providing and sharing false information on social media” after posting content to garner attention online.

The video, titled “Here Comes the Descendants of Long Quang Lake,” uses AI technology to depict a man sitting on a giant snake swimming through the waters of the iconic lake.

Lac Long Quang is a revered figure in Vietnamese mythology and is celebrated as the ancestor of the dragon kings who married the mountain nymph Au Co.

According to the founding myth, their union produced 100 children who became the ancestors of the Vietnamese people. Police said that by using this cultural image in a fabricated context, the man misused AI technology and distorted the significance of one of Hanoi's most sacred historical and cultural sites.
