Reddit launches “P-MAX” campaign using AI

AI News

Reddit is adding its own AI-powered ad campaign types, with new Max Campaigns.Predict the value of every ad impression, which helps improve performance by estimating the best audience for your promotion.

Essentially, Reddit is getting its own version of Meta's P-MAX or TikTok's Smart+ campaigns, with AI-powered targeting driving results based on a broader range of in-stream performance metrics.

As explained on Reddit:

“Max Campaigns optimizes campaign settings in real-time and improves performance with less work. Additionally, while some automated campaigns on other platforms have limited performance visibility, Max Campaigns does the opposite, unlocking new creative and audience insights that are only possible with AI and Reddit community intelligence. We see this as opening up a black box.”

That's why Reddit wants to share more insights into how its AI campaigns determine the right audience for a campaign, to help you understand who is most receptive to your promotions.

According to Reddit, Max campaigns automate targeting, creative selection, placement, and budget allocation, while also giving advertisers a level of control over each element.
And so far, Reddit says the results have been solid.

This year, we've been alpha testing Max campaigns with over 600 testers across a variety of industries and company sizes. In a Max campaign promoting the launch of the Ghost 17 running shoe, Brooks Running saw a 37% decrease in cost per click and a 27% increase in clicks, despite making no manual changes during the 21-day campaign. In a split test comparing Max campaigns to advertisers' regular campaigns, early testers saw, on average, a 17% lower CPA and a 27% increase in conversions. ”

That makes sense. The latest wave of what we call “AI” tools are actually machine learning systems, capable of pattern matching at scale. This means you need to be able to understand which ads your users are interested in (based on insights into their usage across the platform), see how likely they are to click on each ad, and show promotions accordingly.

Reddit says Max campaigns are easier to set up with fewer steps, can generate more platform-relevant creatives, and will soon feature AI-based video cropping to make it easier to import videos from other platforms.

In addition to this, Reddit also offers new Top Audience Personas within the expanded Insights element.

“Top Viewer Persona” is a new reporting feature available only for Max campaigns. Top audience personas allow AI to segment a campaign's audience into relevant personas (like new parents or aspiring home cooks), allowing advertisers to see which personas are viewing and interacting with their campaigns the most, and what those personas are currently interested in. ”

So, as mentioned above, Reddit not only improves targeting through automation, but also provides new insights into who is responding to your ads, so you can learn more about how your ads respond.

“Top Audience Personas are the first of many insights planned to leverage AI to help advertisers better understand the performance of their automated campaigns on Reddit. What makes these insights unique is that they combine advertisers' campaign performance with Reddit community intelligence. This turns Reddit's more than 23 billion posts and comments into structured signals that help advertisers better understand their audiences.”

This gives us improved targeting, new audience insights, and a more holistic view of our Reddit advertising approach.

and IIt might be worth considering. Reddit's DAU count is up 19% year over year, and the prominence of Reddit links in Google searches and AI chatbot responses also points to potential opportunities for exposure.
