Arabi Facts Hub has launched a study to assess the use of artificial intelligence in newsrooms and fact-checking organizations across the Arab world.
In this survey, we want to hear from journalists, fact-checkers, and media professionals who are starting to integrate or plan to integrate AI technology into their workflows. We aim to collect reliable data on usage patterns, professional and ethical challenges, and the opportunities these technologies offer to improve media performance and journalistic quality.
The findings will help build a more accurate, evidence-based picture of the use of AI in Arab media, the group said in a news release. The results are expected to support the development of resources and training tools to enable journalists to implement these technologies in a professional, ethical and responsible manner.
The organization is calling on journalists and media professionals to share the research link with their colleagues to ensure broad participation and diverse representation from across Arab media.
This study aims to gain deeper insight into the changes shaping journalism in the digital age.
Globally, the media sector is witnessing an unprecedented expansion of the use of AI technology. Leading news organizations are increasingly deploying automated text generation tools and big data analytics to accelerate news production, improve efficiency, and improve accuracy.
This rapid change has sparked widespread debate about the ethical implications of AI, particularly regarding transparency, data privacy, and the spread of misinformation. These concerns highlight the urgent need for a regulatory framework and internationally recognized professional standards to govern the responsible use of AI in journalism.
The findings will help develop resources and training tools to help journalists implement these technologies in a professional, ethical and responsible manner.
Regionally, Arab media institutions face further challenges in keeping pace with these changes. These include uneven technology infrastructure, limited investment in digital innovation, and a growing need for targeted training to equip journalists with AI-related skills.
At the same time, significant opportunities exist to strengthen local content production and develop more effective fact-checking tools to counter misinformation, especially given the rapid spread of false information across social media platforms in the region.
Higher education and artificial intelligence
At universities and research centers, the impact of AI on media has become a central focus of media and communication research. Many academic institutions are launching dedicated research initiatives to assess how these technologies will reshape journalistic practice, professional ethics and the future of employment in the media sector.
In parallel, the university is working to incorporate specialized courses on AI, data journalism and digital verification into its curriculum, with the aim of preparing a new generation of journalists with the ability to adapt to a rapidly evolving media environment.
