Artificial intelligence (AI) has moved from a boardroom buzzword to the foundation of modern corporate strategy. Globally, and in Malaysia, organizations are moving beyond experimental “sandbox” projects to integrate intelligence into the heart of mission-critical systems. The core issues for businesses are changing as digital transformation aligns with Malaysia's long-term economic challenges. It's no longer a question of whether to adopt AI, but how to leverage it to redefine efficiency, shorten innovation cycles, and unlock entirely new revenue streams.
AI as a new infrastructure for competitiveness
While many companies start their journey with fragmented AI pilots, the technology's true value is realized when it is treated as a strategic force multiplier rather than a standalone tool. Beyond simple automation, AI empowers businesses to respond more agilely to changing consumer demands by enhancing decision-making, optimizing complex operations, and fostering rapid innovation.
Advances in underlying models have expanded the scope of enterprise-ready AI. Alibaba Cloud's technologies, such as Qwen, a large-scale language model, and Wan, a visual generation model, are designed to meet a variety of enterprise requirements. For example, Alibaba Cloud's Qwen model is designed to meet the diverse requirements of enterprises without requiring organizations to build a bespoke model from scratch.
Qwen3, recently introduced by Alibaba, has made significant advances in reasoning, following instructions, and multilingual capabilities. It supports 119 languages and dialects, including those important to Southeast Asia and global markets, and provides superior performance in translation and following complex instructions. These advances will enable companies to deploy AI across operational, analytical, and customer-facing functions while controlling costs and scaling quickly. For example, Qwen3-VL provides intelligent document understanding that goes beyond basic OCR by understanding layouts, tables, graphs, and visual context to semantically structure data.
Meanwhile, Alibaba recently announced its latest visual generation model “Wan2.6” series. The new model series will enable creators to appear as themselves and with their voices in AI-generated videos using flexible multi-shot storytelling. This is a new feature designed to unlock the creative potential of professional-grade content production with enhanced multi-person interaction and richer narrative extensions. For example, Wan2.6 can create customer-facing content that aligns with tone, audience, and local preferences across global markets by creating engaging copy for social media, email campaigns, product descriptions, ad creatives, and more.
AI + cloud in action: Transforming finance and mobility
The practical application of AI + cloud is already reshaping the landscape in Malaysia. A notable example is Ryt Bank, the world's first AI-powered money transfer bank. Leveraging in part the infrastructure of Alibaba Cloud, Ryt Bank is building an AI-enabled digital banking platform designed to provide Malaysians with a secure, seamless and innovative financial experience.
Ryt Bank successfully launched its core banking environment in just six months, supported by Alibaba Cloud's local cloud infrastructure and secure architecture. The foundation is designed to assist Ryt Bank in operating in line with Bank Negara Malaysia's regulatory requirements. With a fully digital onboarding journey that can be completed in just two minutes, end customers can start banking with Ryt Bank quickly, conveniently, and securely, and Alibaba Cloud helps Ryt Bank provide data resiliency, operational continuity, and robust cyber protection.
Alibaba Cloud has supported PRO-NET since its inception, enabling the company to adopt a cloud-first, data-driven approach through a fully integrated end-to-end data pipeline. The foundation has played a key role in helping PRO-NET drive the development of Malaysia's new energy ecosystem and accelerate the country's transition to intelligent and sustainable mobility.
Based on this foundation, PRO-NET uses Alibaba Cloud's Qwen model to advance its AI capabilities and develop an in-house chatbot. This chatbot will later be extended to customer-facing applications and in-vehicle infotainment systems. The partnership strengthens PRO-NET's capabilities in intelligent mobility, predictive analytics, and customer experience to support Malaysia's broader EV transformation.
Empowering companies for the digital economy
AI has become a decisive factor in modern competitiveness. By integrating cloud-native capabilities and advanced AI models, Malaysian businesses can achieve unprecedented efficiency and accelerate their digital maturity.
The journey to AI-readiness is iterative and long-term. Navigating the complexities of modern markets requires a structured, governance-driven approach. For companies that invest in both the technology and the organizational readiness needed to support it, the rewards are clear. It is about becoming more resilient, agile and competitive in the fast-growing digital economy of Malaysia and the wider region.
