Adani University's new campus creates AI and robotics hub

AHMEDABAD: Adani University's second convocation on Saturday will outline details of its proposed new campus, including what it claims will be Gujarat's first large-scale research park within a private university. This update was shared with 87 graduate students as they completed their degrees. President Dhaval Pujara said the university's planned campus will include laboratories and four centers of excellence in AI and robotics, energy, infrastructure and smart manufacturing. Planning for the research park is currently underway and Pujara said its aim is to enhance research output in areas such as publications, patents and product development. The university's president, Priti Adani, who presided over the ceremony, urged graduates to look at infrastructure not as a measure of speed or scale, but in terms of its impact on daily life. “Progress will no longer be measured only by speed and efficiency, but by how well people live,” she said.In his convocation speech, Savi Soin, President of Qualcomm India, emphasized India's demographic importance, noting that “approximately 377 million Indians are Generation Z, which is roughly the size of the entire U.S. population.'' Terming AI as a potential “leveler” in technology adoption, he said India is well placed to take advantage of it.Later, in an interview with TOI, Soin said concerns about entry-level jobs need to be understood in conjunction with the creation of new roles through improved productivity through AI. “It's not as linear as simply eliminating jobs,” he said. “Many more jobs will be created through the use of AI,” he said, adding that the increasing availability of large-scale language models for Indian languages means “AI is going to open up a world of opportunities.”
