dubai: Milestone Systems, a global leader in data-driven video technology, announces a generative AI-powered video analytics plug-in for XProtect® video management software, co-developed with NVIDIA. Designed to help operators contextualize alarms and focus on what really matters, this new tool automates video reviews, filters out false alarms, and has the potential to reduce operator alarm fatigue by up to 30% based on initial findings.

General availability is expected later this year.

The UAE smart city market is projected to grow from $216.51 million in 2025 to $328.19 million by 2030 at a CAGR of 8.67%. Milestone’s upcoming generated AI-powered video analytics plugin for XProtect aligns well with Dubai’s commitment to leveraging advanced AI for real-time city operations and safety.

Understand more videos faster

Today’s video systems capture vast amounts of data, but reviewing footage remains time-consuming and largely manual. Milestone Systems’ new XProtect plugin addresses this challenge by leveraging generative AI to automatically summarize, contextualize, and validate video content in real-time, enabling teams to respond faster, manage video more efficiently, and effectively reduce operator alarm fatigue.

The main features are:

  • Automated incident reporting – Selected video clips are instantly converted into incident summaries and structured reports, helping operators reduce the time they spend on documentation.
  • Event validation – The plugin can be configured to analyze motion events and validate alarms, reducing false positives and improving alert handling. This feature is fully integrated with the XProtect rules engine.
  • Contextual bookmark summarization – Bookmarked footage is automatically summarized using natural language output, allowing for quick prioritization without manually reviewing each clip.

This plugin integrates directly with the XProtect rules engine and can be deployed on-premises or in the cloud to support compliance and deployment flexibility.

“As the UAE continues its ambition to become the world’s smartest and safest city by 2031, innovations that enhance real-time situational awareness, reduce false alarms and enable faster response are perfectly aligned with the UAE’s commitment to powering smart, efficient and safe urban living. This solution exemplifies how AI can optimize city operations from traffic management to public safety, while adhering to ethical and regulatory standards.” Louise Bou Rached Mr. Milestone Systems Director, Middle East, Türkiye and Africa.

Built on a foundation of ethical AI powered by real-world data

The new solution is built on Milestone’s Hafnia Vision Language Model (VLM), trained on 75,000 hours of ethically sourced real-world video data from Europe or the United States, using NVIDIA Cosmos Curator for data preparation, and running on cloud infrastructure or in NVIDIA-powered regional data centers. Powered by NVIDIA Cosmos Reason VLM, it is one of the most advanced and compliant video AI platforms in the industry.

Thomas Jensen, CEO of Milestone Systems, said: “This new XProtect plug-in gives any city, organization, or operator managing a transportation system access to advanced video intelligence, enabling them to unlock new levels of efficiency, safety, and insight. “This is a pivotal step in our mission to transform the way transportation systems are managed.” The world is responsibly managing and learning from visual data at scale. ”

XProtect customers such as Genoa City, Italy and Dubuque, Iowa are excited to try out these new features and are leading the way in deploying advanced video intelligence solutions to enhance traffic management.

Enabling ecosystem innovation with VLM-as-a-Service This plugin is just the beginning. Milestone is also introducing VLM as a Service via API, allowing developers, integrators, and partners to build their own generative AI solutions, regardless of the video management platform they use.
