Appian plans to make version 25.4 of Agent Studio generally available. This tool allows organizations to deploy AI agents at scale to reason, handle unexpected situations, and automate complex tasks. Appian Composer is also now available for rapid application development.
Appian demonstrated Agent Studio for the first time at Appian World in April 2025. The company says customer interest has been high. The beta phase validated that Agent Studio is enterprise-ready and user-friendly.
Deploy AI agents directly into business processes
This tool enables the deployment of AI agents that go beyond mere assistance. These agents can make independent decisions based on enterprise data and adapt to changing circumstances.
Business users can specify in natural language what they want to accomplish. The AI agent then uses Appian’s data fabric and tools to determine the best approach. With access to all enterprise data, agents can make smarter decisions, interpret unstructured data, and make real-time adjustments.
The main advantage is that the agent is embedded in the process. This simplifies governance and controlling agent behavior. Therefore, organizations can maintain control over what AI does within their business processes.
Composer accelerates application development
In addition to Agent Studio, Appian Composer is also now generally available. Over 130 organizations have already built over 1,300 applications using this tool. Composer is changing the way organizations modernize applications by empowering users at all development levels to quickly turn ideas into working applications.
This tool builds interactive plans for user stories, data, processes, and user experience. Composer provides business users, IT, and AI with a shared workspace to plan and design applications together. With one click, you can generate applications that can be further customized to meet your specific business needs.
An AI-guided experience makes all the difference. Where application development traditionally takes weeks or months, Appian promises to help organizations achieve results quickly. This is especially important for companies that want to respond quickly to changes in market demand.
Your data fabric grows with you
Appian’s data fabric has also been significantly improved. The system can now process up to 50 million rows with 5x faster write throughput. For organizations working with large data sets, this means increased potential without performance issues.
Additionally, Data Fabric now supports transparent data encryption. This allows organizations to meet more stringent information security requirements. Your data remains safe even when processed by AI agents.
CTO Michael Beckley puts the development in perspective. “Many organizations deploy inefficient and expensive standalone AI chatbots to their back-office operations teams. According to MIT research, this approach fails 95% of the time because the AI itself is easily confused by different data contexts.”
Beckley said Appian is following a fundamentally different path. “We embed specialized AI agents directly within operational workflows to deliver reliable results at scale and enable real-world outcomes, such as accurately processing tens of millions of insurance quotes per year for a single customer.”
By integrating AI into workflows, companies can move beyond isolated pilots. This enables controlled AI initiatives at scale that actually contribute to business outcomes.
