New Delhi:
Hundreds of AI-generated Bollywood videos with 16 million views have been removed from Google's YouTube after Reuters reported that they were similar to the centre of the legal challenges filed by celebrity couples to protect their rights.
Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan and his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have asked the New Delhi judge to remove and ban the creation of AI videos that infringe intellectual property rights. Their lawsuit also challenges YouTube's AI training policy.
The judge last month ordered a takedown of a handful of YouTube links the actors sought, but Reuters reported this week that the platform still shows hundreds of other similar videos.
One such popular YouTube channel, “AI Generated Bollywood Love Story” has been deleted. Previously there were 259 videos, but essentially explicitly, it had been viewed 16.5 million times. On Friday, the link said: “This page is not available.” None of the videos are available for access.
In an email to Reuters, YouTube said that the channels flagged in the news agency's report had been removed by the creators and the content was no longer available on the platform. Although it did not elaborate on that account, entitled “Ai Bollywood Ishq,” the company said it would ban harmful misinformation and remove content that has been technically manipulated or turned into a doctor in a way that would mislead users.
Messages to email addresses previously listed on YouTube channel @aibollywoodishq bouncing off on Friday. The owners did not respond to Reuters questions earlier this week. India has around 600 million users, and is the world's largest market for YouTube and is popular for its entertainment content like Bollywood videos.
The most popular video on the currently deleted channel was a video with 4.1 million views showing AI animations of Salman Khan and Aishwarya in the swimming pool. Khan had an affair with Aishwarya long before his marriage. Representatives from Khan and Bachchans did not immediately respond to Reuters questions on Friday.
Several other videos similar to the examples cited in Abhishek's lawsuit documents on YouTube were still online as of Friday. Among them was a clip showing Abhishek posing, but there was a portrayal of AI using AI manipulation to suddenly kiss the film actress, with Aishwarya and Khan enjoying a meal together.
Bachchans is seeking $450,000 in damages from Google and other lesser known websites, offering fraudulent products with those images.
