Democrat Madeleine Dean stood up to Mike Johnson on the House floor on Tuesday, surpassing party funding standards before the government shut down.
Dean criticised Johnson multiple times about health care, and we could hear President Donald Trump called for not to push back on racist AI-generated videos of House minority leader Hakem Jeffries and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer.
A Pennsylvania Democrat pushed Johnson over the video Trump posted on his true social platform, and the speaker replied, “It wasn't my style.”
“Not your style? That's dishonor. It's racist. You should call it,” Dean said.
The video portrays Jeffries as Sombrero, Mustache and Schumer talking in fake voices, claiming that undocumented immigrants get “free health care.” Just as Mariachi's music plays in the background, the fake Schumer's voice said, “There's no way to sugarcoat it. No one likes Democrats anymore.”
In his response, Johnson appeared to be pushing Dean for details on the video.
“Is it racist? You put the sombrero on the black man who is the leader of the house. Don't you think you're racist? We need to lead you desperately,” Animation Dean told the speaker, highlighting her hands and raising them.
Johnson returned to his office and told Dean: “I'm working on that, and personally, it's not my style.
“That's why I'm talking to you,” Dean responded.
When asked about the “source” by Kaitlan Collins of CNN, Johnson said, “I am the Speaker of the House. I represent Republicans and Democrats in that capacity. I always hear complaints and concerns from members.
Johnson told Dean he “opposed her perspective on that.”
“I tried to get her back to the real problem,” Johnson said. “Tonight's fight isn't about social media posts. The fight is about whether they'll keep the government open for Americans.”
It's not the first time Dean has faced Johnson. Dean confronted Johnson publicly in June after California Sen. Alex Padilla was forced to remove him from a press conference for Trump administration officials, causing a fuss at the Capitol.
Dean told CNN he faced Johnson about his decision to cancel House votes as government funding deadlines approach, and his lack of response to Trump's AI-generated video, a Democratic leader in the House and Senate.
“I said I was disappointed that he sent his members home. In effect, he was one of the leaders shutting down the government, and he said that wasn't. He really believed this was going to go through,” Dean said.
She added that she told Johnson:
The Pennsylvania Democrats also said that when they pushed Johnson why they didn't criticise Trump's video posting, Johnson asked if it was racist.
“He rhetorically asked me, 'Is that really racist?' It was really racist, mean, and he should have called it,” she said.
“That's a problem and the family chair didn't see racism,” Dean added. She also said that after speaking in front of the US military's Top Brass on Tuesday, the president said he thought he was “feeling bad,” but that Johnson refused to acknowledge her comments.
“He assured me that he was just telling the truth. Everything he says to Americans is true. I think he's going to get through this,” Dean told reporters.
Dean reiterated that he is not intending to provide enough votes to allow Democrats to pass the GOP-backed Stop-Gap Funding Bill.
“If we need a democratic vote, we have to put something in the bill we actually believe in. We are not going to give it a vote – I mainly talk for myself. I'm not going to vote and cut further down Medicaid, cancer research, pediatric cancer research, Alzheimer's disease, Alzheimer's disease, nutrition for children, nutrition for children.
“It's with Republicans. If it's you, what you believe, it's the popularity of your hometown and it represents the will of your members.
