Jacksonville, Florida. – The University of North Florida (UNF) has launched its groundbreaking free AI certificate program, which has already attracted over 20,000 subscribers worldwide, demonstrating a growing global interest in artificial intelligence education.

The “AI for Work and Life” certificate program launched in September 2025 offers a comprehensive 8-module curriculum designed to help you understand and apply AI in both individual and professional contexts. Dr. Josh Gellers, the first AI faculty member and director of the Institute of Digital Humanities, shared insights about the program in an interview for “This Week's Jacksonville: Business Edition.”

The programme was born from UNF's leadership vision, particularly from the president and chief information officer. “We wanted to really make a splash and demonstrate that we are here in northeast Florida, to support the business community, to help the broader community understand environmental, technological and social issues and to bring them all together,” Gellers said.

The program attracts a diverse audience from around the world, including participants from Kazakhstan and other international locations. The program serves everyone from recent graduates to lifelong learners, creating a comprehensive learning environment for those interested in understanding AI technology.

This initiative is supported by Jacksonville-based NLP Logics. This is the leader in AI integration for organizations. The partnership demonstrates UNF's commitment to bringing academic resources together with business communities in Northeast Florida.

The program aims to address general concerns about AI's employment and social impact. “You're not going to be replaced by AI, but you might be replaced by someone using AI,” Dr. Gellers pointed out, emphasizing the importance of understanding and adapting to technology changes.
