According to a memo obtained by STAT, UnitedHealth Group has made Duke artificial intelligence experts a leading AI scientist as the healthcare giant is increasing its use of technology across its vast corporate network.
According to a memo from Duke School of Medicine Mary Clotman, Duke Health chief data scientist Michael Pencina resigned from her role at Duke on Wednesday and took a job at United Health.
At Duke, Pensina aims to increase surveillance of AI tools used in healthcare, and calls for the creation of a national registration for AI tools that track where AI products are used and disclose training, development and performance details. Pencina is also the co-founder of Health AI, a group that has sought to develop standards for testing and monitoring for AI tools used in healthcare.
