With the arrival of iOS 26 on the iPhone, many of Apple's latest Apple Intelligence Feature front and centers have arrived. From built-in call screening with AI to major Siri upgrades in 2026, Apple Intelligence is slowly beginning to take shape.
One way Apple plans to expand its AI offering is to use the Foundation Models Framework, Device LLM (large language model) at the heart of Apple Intelligence. While Apple is still slowly rolling out its own AI capabilities, you can actually see what the underlying model framework could be, with some applications from real-world third-party developers.
Apple actually shared a list of apps this week and how its basic models are used within those apps. Apps range from smarter gym systems like those offered by the SmartGym app to prompts intended to burn your creative sparks with apps like Stoic.

Apps that use Apple's AI models
As mentioned above, the first app for Apple's Foundation Models Framework in Action is SmartGym. This is an app that says it will help Apple use the model to generate a breakdown of workout progress and routines. Collect all this information and display it in an easily digestible view that can be grouped together using Apple's models.
Another app you can try out to see Apple models at work is Stoic. This can provide personalized prompts to help you write. These are contextual prompts that adapt to your current state of mind based on other information found within the device.
Other apps using the Foundation model include appreciation for journaling apps, training fitness. This is a great way to use new exercises based on past training. If you want to download it to your device and try it out yourself, here is the complete list of apps.
Part of what really intrigues the model is that the Foundation Models Framework is designed to be a device. It's also the same framework that Apple plans to use to significantly upgrade Siri next year.
