Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Wednesday what he called the company's “high resolution first AI glasses.” However, the discovery did not go completely, as Zuckerberg had hoped.
Zuckerberg's Metaconnect 2025 keynote, held at Meta's California headquarters at an unusually late hour in the Pacific Ocean (8pm), was expected to unveil a groundbreaking pair of smart glasses codenamed Hyper Nova. What we got: Upgrade to an existing Ray-Ban Metaframe. Metavanguard, Oakley's new sports-centric set. And a new model called confusing with the Meta Ray-Bans.
“This is one of those special moments where we can show you what we've put our lives into,” Zuckerberg told the packed house and livestream, along with 4,000 viewers. The Metarayban had a bright and clear display with an impressive 5,000-knit rating, he said.
Zuckerberg then revealed not only the Metarayban he walked (and quickly hid) with (and quickly) but also a companion device called the Meta Neural Band, a light fabric wristband that picks up small movements on the wrist. This allows you to enter words into your smart glass display by pretending to be handwritten. “I'm up to about 30 words per minute about this,” Zuckerberg said.
And the CEO stood helpless as repeated WhatsApp video calls from meta CTO Andrew “Bos” Bosworth appeared in his glasses. Zuckerberg's neural band interface apparently failed to pick up the call. Boz had to attend a live show with him on stage.

Zuckerberg's demo game started with a strong start. The keynote was held in live view through his Metarayban, with Zuckerberg firing a song of hype (which also allows volume control) and replying to incoming text with muscle emojis.
However, a new live Ray-Banmeta demo (currently available for $379) has since been stranded on the glasses “Liveai Feature.”
“Now, you've built your base so…” The glasses start several times, and ignore the presenter's repeated requests for instructions on how to make that base: “What do I do first?”
Zuckerberg later condemned the failed WiFi demonstration, but was unable to explain why his Metarayvan couldn't pick up Boz's phone. Finally, a non-live, non-demo video intended to show the Metaray-Ban used in the design of surfboards and ordered parts.
Zuckerberg explains how glasses work with Agent AI and brushes past concerns about whether Agent AI works in live demos and more.
