S5 EP32: Adopting AI and machine learning technology with Dr. Tom Lee

Machine Learning

Artificial intelligence is beginning to sneak into Australia's lean meat supply chain, whether it's accurately counting sheep and cows from trucks into garden quarters, or picking the shapes of primal tri-tips that go through processing conveyor belts and stuff them into cartons.

Today's weekly grill podcast, host Kelly Ronergan chews fat Dr. Tomley From Sydney Institute of Technology.

Tom classifies himself as a “middleman” between AI technology developers/designers and potential end users such as farmers and meat processors.

Has AI made progress with AG? While certain early adopters and innovator farmers are on their front paws, the intake is still quite niche at AG, Tom says, but things are changing rapidly. But for the moment, for the majority of farmers, AI is what they are listening to, not yet applying.

He says it is important to distinguish between AI and the second technical term, Artificial General Information (AGI).

“People think that AI will ultimately mimic humans. If we continue to invest in it, it's AGI, not AI,” he said.

“AI is good at playing chess games. It solves “something of the small world” where all inputs are known, works through all permutations, and uses huge amounts of data in a very powerful way, but the human mind can't do. ”

Weekly grills are brought to listeners Rhino Guard and BOVI-SHIELD MH-ONE – One-shot, one spray, one-time BRD vaccine with Zoetis.
