The Minister said an initiative to use AI-powered models for healthcare on a pilot basis is being implemented at the government Royapettah hospital and government hospitals in Periyar Nagar.
The system is installed in two centers, with CT scans and x-ray data being anonymized and analyzed early stages for detection of diseases such as lung cancer. The doctor will provide a final confirmation of the diagnosis. Diseases such as lung cancer are very difficult to detect early on, and this is what AI could play a role. The system developed by a private agency is piloted to see how a doctor can assist with a diagnosis.
Based on feedback, the expert committee will look at how this can be proceeded and how the technology can be utilized to detect cases that have not been diagnosed or difficult to detect.

Officials added that experts from Anna University, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and other engineering institutions will also be roped.
