AI can turn US-Mexico borders into “smart trade corridors”

Applications of AI

The US-Mexico border is emerging as a logistics and innovation hub where AI can transform data management, speed product intersections and strengthen North America's global competitiveness.

Borders could become “smart corridors” through the strategic use of AI aimed at increasing trade competitiveness and security. This is agreed between the fourth bilateral treaty hosted by the Mexican Association (AMSOC), the Bridge of New Routes and Progress.

Glenn Hammer, president and CEO of the Texas Business Association, emphasized that Mexico has become the top US trading partner, surpassing Canada and China. He said that trends along the way provide opportunities for strengthening regional integration.

“Mexico is currently the number one trading partner in the United States. Using AI wisely allows the country to maintain its world-leading economic and military capabilities as its supply chain is restructured across North America,” Hamer said.

Hamer added that bilateral cooperation under the White House's AI Action Advocacy Program could bring about a common interest. “We're heading towards $1 trillion in bilateral trade. AI can increase the efficiency and profit margins of the companies that are adopting it,” he added.

Ali Lehavi is Moody's Head of Applied AI CEO Ai, who said Mexico owns its own trade document infrastructure and has become a promising lab for AI applications.

“What I found in Mexico is a unique documentation infrastructure, with a level of detail that AI can learn from every transaction, every error, every lesson,” Lehavi said. “This database positions the country as one of the most promising labs for developing AI applications through trade.”

Lehavi explained that the ecosystem is already driving startups and fintech solutions along the border, which could accelerate the digitalization of regional trade. “All delays in AI adoption are missing out on opportunities as this technology works with a combined effect. When implemented, faster positive feedback increases,” he said.
