Artificial intelligence giant Openai announced Thursday that its nonprofit parents will maintain control of the company while also gaining more than $100 billion in equity interests.
The move will raise new capital while also making the nonprofit parent “one of the world's most resourced charities,” according to Openai's board chair Bret Taylor.
“This recapitalization will allow us to increase the capital we need to achieve our mission. [public benefit corporation] Taylor said in a statement.

In a joint statement on Thursday, Openai and Microsoft said they signed a non-binding memorandum that they would not understand that they would form the next stage of partnership, and are actively working to finalize a decisive deal. The company said it is focused on building safe “best” artificial intelligence tools.

“Openai and Microsoft have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) in the next phase of our partnership,” the companies said in a joint statement Thursday afternoon. “We are actively working to complete the terms of the contract with a decisive agreement. Together, we are focusing on providing the best AI tools for everyone based on our shared commitment to safety.”

Most small and medium-sized businesses use artificial intelligence
In May, Openai announced it had given up plans to move the company from a non-profit structure to become a for-profit enterprise. ChatGpt-Maker has established a for-profit limited liability company. Tech Giant announced at the time that Openai's nonprofit would have operational control over the public benefits company and become a large shareholder within it.
