Online UK scams have intensified new data from Nethone, Mango Pie's global fraud detection solution, revealing criminal activity is no longer limited to the traditional peak of holiday, but it has become a year-round challenge.
From January 2024 to July 2025, the amount of monthly fraud interrogation events assessed for risks that include transactions, logins, sign-ups and other risks increased from 240 to over 525 million. In July 2025, it set a new all-time high, highlighting the continuedness and scale of online attacks. Year-over-year trends reflect the same trajectory, with Nethone processing an average of 470 million checks in the first seven months of 2025, showing a 48% increase compared to 300 million in the same period last year.
The UK has emerged as one of the most frequently attacked markets, along with France, Germany and Spain. The data also highlights changing sector dynamics. The e-commerce platform has remained the most targeted, consistently driving over 400 million checks per month this year. Travel and mobility operators recorded sharp seasonal spikes during the peak booking period, while fintech platforms experienced intensive surges tied to specific events. The gaming platform displayed similar patterns, with attacks rising, mainly focusing on major promotional campaigns.
Nethone's comprehensive risk profiling, which integrates device fingerprinting, behavioral biometrics and account history analysis, has also seen a significant increase. Between January and July 2025, an average of 170 million people increased from 110 million people during the same period in June 2024. It set a record of 245 million in June 2025, indicating an increasing demand for advanced fraud detection.
Nethone's VP Engineering, VP Engineering, fraud platform, Mark Burton, “Fraud is no longer a seasonal threat. Our data shows that criminal activity is putting pressure on UK and European platforms all year round. Scammers are now misusing promotional cycles and refund windows, just like traditional shopping peaks. Surges.”
The findings highlight the growing challenges for digital platforms across Europe. As fraudsters adapt to exploiting consumer cycles and platform vulnerabilities, companies pressure them to maintain a robust defense without sacrificing the user experience. For e-commerce, fintech, travel and gaming operators, the ability to counter fraud as a continuous threat is important in maintaining consumer trust and operational resilience.
