STC alumnus Fernando Benavides graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor of Computer Information Technology degree. Currently, as information technology operations manager for Texas Workforce Solutions, Benavides said the priorities that the BAT-Cit program places in AI in its courses allow him to incorporate the technology that organizations use to help job seekers.
“You may already know that workforce solutions use AI tools that help people looking for jobs to create resumes and help searches. That's just an example. Others can help manage their 401K retirement plans using AI. “It's not surprising that STC is free to use this perfect moment to only increase the learning potential of all students, so within the right parameters and the right controls.”
Campos is more than just a mission to integrate AI into its departments and programs, and has been designated as an institutional priority in the university's 2025-2031 strategic plan, calling for the creation of programs and degrees using new technologies and the use of AI to maximize efficiency and streamline operations.
STC has created an AI task force co-led by Campos and Christoper Nelson, deans of STC Liveral Arts, to coordinate efforts across the university's department.
STC's AI Task Force coordinates the use of technology among faculty. This highlights a balanced approach to training and ethics.
“Responsible use means using AI for support while practicing basic skills,” Campos said.
The business sector, Public Safety Technology (BPST) leadership recognizes the current and future relevance of AI, and says it has begun a year-long effort to assess potential applications in the program.
“We know that AI is already here and want to start embedding it in every program. It really can be anywhere,” BPST's Contact Point said. “We decided to go all out about this, and we know that tomorrow's students are already using AI as a resource, and we want to make sure they are using it effectively in our curriculum.
