Bishop Robert Barron of Winona Rochester, Minnesota, and founder of the Catholic Department, recently warned about a surge in fake videos created with artificial intelligence (AI) impersonating social media.

He also recalled another case that was believed to have been summoned to Rome by Pope Leo XIV for “high-level arguments.” The bishop revealed: “I met Pope Leo once. It happened in Rome a few weeks ago. We posted it on social media. I waved his hand and smiled.
The video is circulating and he has given recommendations on how to “remove the devil from your toilet.”
“My point,” Baron said, “This is all ridiculous, and if you're going to spend a bit, I think I can tell you the difference between a real video from me and one of these fakes.”
The bishop warned that this phenomenon was not harmless. “These are scammers, what they do is make money from these things because they monetize them through advertising.
In response, he urged not to be fooled by the faithful. “Don’t take these stupid things seriously, don’t look at them. my There is a blue check that can be displayed next to my YouTube channel, something on the official Fire Channel Word, and my name and profile name. “It's becoming more and more of a problem, and I want you to know about it and do what you can to fight it, and God bless you,” he concluded.
Leo XIV's concerns about the ethical use of AI
Pope Leo XIV has been particularly concerned about the ethical use of AI since the beginning of his Pope. On June 7, the Pope emphasized “the urgent need” for serious reflection and the inherently ethical aspect of AI and its continued discussion of its responsible governance.
A month later, in a message to AI participants for the 2025 summit in Geneva, Switzerland, he recalled, “The responsibility for the ethical use of AI systems starts with those who develop, manage and oversee them, but those who use them share this responsibility.”
In his letter, the Pope urged the “human-centered regulatory framework” and the promotion of “appropriate ethical management” of AI technology at both the local and global level.
