AI startup OpenART makes creating “Brain Rot” videos easier than ever

With millions of users and revenue growth, OpenART aims to reduce barriers to creating AI content.

Openart, an AI startup founded by former Google employees, is popularizing the “Brain Rot” video featuring quirky characters such as a cappuccino for the head and a shark wearing sneakers and a ballerina.

With around 3 million active users each month, the company recently launched a new “One Click Story” feature on Open Beta. This tool allows users to create a one-minute video from one sentence, script, or song that is suitable for Tiktok, YouTube, or ads.

The platform provides character video blogs, music videos and explanatory templates. Users can upload images and songs, and Openart's AI generates animated stories that match the content's theme. With over 50 AI models including Dalle-3 and GPT, users can edit clips for more refined results.

Unlike many competitors, Openart claims to be excellent at keeping characters consistent throughout the video.

Despite its popularity, ethical concerns persist, including risks of intellectual property infringement and misinformation. Openart CEO Coco Mao admits that copyrighted characters can slip through uploads, but the company aims to work with IP holders for licensing.

The startup runs on a credit-based subscription system and is doing well at over $20 million a year after raising $5 million in funding.
