The Welsh committee has announced a policy regarding the use of AI by organizations that meet Welsh standards.
When adopting new technology, it is essential that organizations continue to adhere to Welsh standards, the committee member said.
Since the introduction of Welsh standards in 2016, there have been many changes in the technical field as they have been used more effectively than ever in AI systems using Welsh, the commissioner added.
The use of AI will allow organizations to provide more efficient, personalized, accessible services that will benefit Welsh, the commissioner said, potentially ensuring that the language is “relevant and alive in the digital world.”
Osian Liwellyn, deputy commissioner of Welsh language and director of regulatory; I said:
“The field of artificial intelligence is developing at a fast pace and we believe it will provide valuable opportunities to fundamentally change the way we communicate with each other and the world around us, while also providing a valuable opportunity to improve the services we offer in Wales.
“The Welsh standards ensure that Wales is treated equally in English and remains the language that we live in our everyday lives. Therefore, it is important that technological development is regulated in a way that continues to reflect consumer habits, and that Welsh is maintained and promoted in a digital world.
“Using AI supports the use of AI as it provides a unique opportunity to improve our services, but this must be done in a way that respects and promotes our language and culture. We hope that the publication of this policy today will be a way to help us do so effectively.”
The discussion regarding the use of artificial intelligence in the field of Welsh language services is set up to see a panel of experts and users participating in Osian Llywelyn to discuss the field of work.
One of the contributors is Osian Jones, a digital public service centre, working with the organization to transform services in Wales.
He said:
“Welsh digital services standards are being developed in collaboration with the Welsh government and local governments across Wales, defining what great public services in Wales look and helping to design and deliver efficient and cost-effective services focused on consumer needs.
“Our aim as a centre is to help organizations provide quality public services and make them easier to use. By working together, we hope that Wales can continue to be a technology leader and maintain and promote their own language and culture.”
