The Policy Framework outlined that data collection using sensors and drones is carried out with the use of 3D digital twins while performing a digital health assessment of the bridge.New Delhi: The Bihar government has formulated the “Bihar State Bridge Management and Maintenance Policy, 2025” to utilize artificial intelligence and machine learning technology to undertake the maintenance of bridges in the state as part of its digital audit initiative.
“For the management and maintenance of the bridge, the “Bihar State Bridge Management and Maintenance Policy, 2025” has been approved by the Cabinet and has been enacted on the date of 06.06.2025. This policy is the long-term bridge maintenance policy for all bridges on roads belonging to the road construction sector and dark verts.
The policy framework came out after the Supreme Court approved recognition of several cases of bridges that have collapsed in Manger in Patna district over the past few years. According to the report of Hindusthe petition filed with the Supreme Court called for the development of mechanisms or policies that would require real-time audits of state bridges.

“The Digital Bridge Safety Audit of Bairihari Ghat Bridge, located on the Kare River in Samastipur district, has been awarded to M/S Vital Environment India Private Limited, Gurgaon,” the document states.
“They conduct a digital safety audit, reports will be submitted using artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML)-based software, and based on detailed reports, repair/modification work will be carried out by BRPNNL (Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Ltd) through another contractor.” added.
The state has physically investigated the total number of 12,065 culverts as part of its safety audit, according to the documents. Of the total investigated, 96 is a damaged dark vert, 4 requires rebuilding and 92 requires special repairs. Furthermore, the total number of bridges physically investigated is 743, of which the number of bridges damaged is 29, requiring special repairs.
Furthermore, the Indian Institute of Technology Patna and Delhi Research Institute have undergone third-party safety audits of 45 bridges and 40 bridges, respectively, and have been subject to Patna, Bagalpur, Bangka, Manga, Jamui, Ehanabad, Auragabad, Gaya, Gaya, Nawada, Nalanda, Rakarai, Kaimal, Bagalpu, Nawanda, Nawada, Nawada, Nawada, Khagaria, Begusarai, Muzaffarpur, Sitemarhi, West and East Champaran, Katihar, Purnea, Araria, Kishanganj, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Sitemarhi.
