Meta's latest With kids have powerfully bagged a $250 million salary packet, but the 24-year-old researcher's last AI offering user labeled it “clumsy” and complained, “sucking in Google Chrome.”
Matt Deitke's final technical tool, VY, is said to handle repetitive tasks “with high accuracy” and handle them without interruption while users are browsing.
The product learns by observing the user's behavior and executes commands directly on the user's computer.
However, some VY users like search engine optimization expert Julian Goldie say their performance differs from application to application, while others claim that the agent's performance is not meeting the topic
“In Google Chrome, it's packed with numbers, but it's the magic of ChatGpt, pages, and descriptions,” Goldie posted to X.
Goldie compared the Vy to an Apple iPhone during its early development.
“It's like an early iPhone moment for an AI agent,” he writes.
He also acknowledged the possibility of VY managing workflows.
“It's like having an intern. It's not a ghost, it's not tired, it doesn't tire you out, it knows how to use the app better than you.”
According to the New York Times, he joined Meta to join the University of Washington's Computer Science PhD program, and recently raised his nose with Zuckerberg's “lowball” offer, which amounted to roughly $125 million over four years.
But when the Facebook founder met up with him and doubled his offer, he embraced what could become one of the biggest pay packets in corporate history, The Times said.
Zuckerberg's Protegee appears to have jumped over the ship from Vercept, a startup he founded with a friend in November.
Vercte has raised $16 million in funding from venture capital and tech investors to boost VY, but some users say they're having trouble finding practical uses for the tool.
One Reddit user, @u/fontainegal66, complained that it was clunky.
“I was using it last week and I tried a lot of things. Some tasks handle well. The others still feel a bit clunky.”
“I tried to organize my folders. It takes a lot of time. You can take a screenshot and understand it before you do it slowly. Jobs like manual scraping should be tried.”
“I'm really struggling to find a way to make it convenient. It's technically impressive, but I… don't know how to do anything that would help,” user @TonyTrewinnand also posted on X.
Some users also noted technical issues on the Vercept website, such as the issue of signing up for Vy Waitlist.
“Your site can't join the waitlist. I'll just keep saying Macs. Why do you think I don't have a Mac?
Deitke, which recently offered VY free, had previously admitted that the company was still in its early stages.
“We're still very new and very young,” Deitke said in a recent interview with tech blogger Robert Scoble. “Having a great experience is our number one priority right now.”
Deitke did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
Zuckerberg told investors in the company's revenue call on Wednesday that Meta will “build an elite talented team.”
“If you're going to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on calculating and building multiple gigawatt clusters, then whatever it takes to get it, it really makes sense to get 50 or 70 or something like that.
“The best and most talented people have an absolute premium.”
