Chinese video sharing platform Kuaishou Technology offers banks to video generation models powered by artificial intelligence. It boasts immense application potential in areas such as film, animation, mini-drama, and advertising.

Experts believe that text-to-video generators could revolutionize the short video, advertising and film trailer industry after Openai's Sora, a US-based AI research company, takes the world by storm.

Since its launch last June, Kuaishou's video generation model Kling has received over 30 iterations and upgrades, reaching over 45 million global creators, generating over 20,000 videos and 400 million images, serving over 20,000 enterprise customers.

Gai Kun, Senior Vice President, Kuaishou and Head of Kling AI, said 2025 is a key year to enhance the detailed application of generator AI technology, highlighting the rapid development and application of video generation models.

Gai says that AI has the potential to grow in video and image generation, and the goal of Kling AI is to become a new infrastructure for video creation in the age of AI, and that “everyone can tell a good story with AI.”

The model is used in a variety of fields, including marketing and advertising, film, television, animation and game production, he added. Kling AI will continue to accelerate deep applications across a wide range of scenarios, focusing on innovation in the future.

Kuaishou launched the Kling AI 2.0 video generation model in April. The AI model surpassed Openai's SORA in several dimensions, including semantic responsiveness and visual and movement quality, marking a major breakthrough in AI video creation, the company said.

This model can interpret prompts to generate high-quality videos that mimic the physical world and create imaginative scenes from textual instructions. Multimodal editing functions are also available on the Kling AI platform. Users can enter ideas through images and other formats to generate creative videos tailored to their concepts.

Xue Xiaolu, one of China's most commercially successful female directors, said that AI has reconstructed the traditional film and television production process so that it can quickly complete all tasks, from writing scripts to generating and editing videos, dramatically reducing production times and costs, and complete all tasks quickly.

Ma Shicong, an analyst at Analysys, a Beijing-based internet consultant, said Kuaishou has accumulated ample experience and technical strength in AI, video, live streaming and algorithms over the past few years.

MA said the company hopes to speed up its monetization efforts by seeking new revenue streams and expanding its footprint in content segments generated by developing AI amid intense competition with local rivals.

Training video-generated AI models requires higher requirements for computing capabilities, algorithms and high quality data, says Pan Herin, a member of the Information and Communications Economic Commission, which operates under the Ministry of Industry, Information and Technology.

He said that Chinese tech companies need to strengthen their self-development and unique capabilities in underlying computing power chips and programming software, increase investment in basic scientific research, and keep up with their foreign counterparts in AI chatbot races.

Noting that AI-generated content or AIGC-related technologies will improve content productivity and inject new driving forces into China's economic growth, PAN said more effort is needed to enhance efficient circulation of data elements and expand application scenarios for video generation models over a wider range of segments.

Chen Duan, director of the Digital Economy Integrated Innovation Development Centre at the Central University of Finance and Economics, said AIGC technology will lead to a new revolution in the field of digital content production and will strengthen innovation in the digital culture industry.

Chinese companies have unique advantages in expanding AI application scenarios compared to their peers of foreigners, based on China's vast domestic social media network and the world's largest active internet users, she said, adding that text-to-video generators could revolutionize sectors such as short videos, advertising, and film trailers.
