YouTube Shorts brings AI tools from image to video

AI Video & Visuals

Creators can turn their photos into short videos using Google's VEO-driven tools with YouTube shorts.

Google has rolled out new AI features for YouTube shorts, including inter-image tools powered by VEO 2 models. This update allows users to convert still images into 6-second animation clips, such as turning static groups photos into dynamic scenes.

Creators can also experiment with immersive AI effects that style into short videos with selfies or simple drawings themed. These features are intended to enhance creative expression and are currently available in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, with a global rollout expected later this year.

A new AI Playground Hub has also been launched to accommodate all generation tools, including video effects and inspiration prompts. Users can find the hub by tapping the “Create” button on the shorts camera and then tapping the sparkle icon in the top corner.

Google plans to introduce even more advanced tools using the VEO 3 model, which supports synchronized audio generation. The company places YouTube shorts as an important platform for AI-driven creativity in the video content space.
