President Donald Trump aims to make his statements on artificial intelligence and sign AI-related executive orders.
White House officials said Wednesday that the plan involves requiring AI developers to ensure that chatbots are “free of ideological bias” because they are eligible for federal contracts.
“I believe that AI systems should not be designed to pursue a socially designed agenda without ideological bias,” David Sacks of White House Artificial Intelligence and Cryptography Czar told reporters.
The federal government will update its procurement guidelines to only contract with large-scale language model developers “allowing freedom of speech and expression to flourish.”
The Trump administration is also aiming to promote innovation in the AI space by removing what is known as “troubling federal regulations that hinder the development and deployment of AI,” the White House said.
White House officials did not say how ideological biases are defined or identified. The Government Services Agency is expected to put together a procurement language that requires AI models to adhere to the standards of authenticity as a condition of federal contracts, White House officials said.
