Strategically located within the data flow between the video processor and the display interface, the Medtronic Gi Genius module operates in a pass-through configuration, preventing the video stream from being modified. At the same time, the GI Genius module includes the ability to accept, process and integrate AI-driven analytics within video feeds. This calculation feature is designed to add real-time overlays to the video output, increasing the depth of information available during the endoscopic procedure.
Additionally, the GI Genius module may host applications developed by reviewed third-party developers that are easily accessible to physicians. This gives medical professionals the flexibility to select the most appropriate application before starting the procedure. Through the sophisticated Gi Genius AI Access platform interface powered by the high-performance, unified Edge AI Nvidia Holoscan platform, developers can build custom applications for distribution to Medtronic ecosystems.
Nvidia Holoscan and IGX have provided Medtronic and its development partner, Cosmo IMD, with a streamlined architecture that removes the need to build a full-stack, real-time sensor processing platform from scratch. This allowed for a rapid and seamless migration across the development production deployment continuum, allowing reallocation of resources towards the development of competitive software and features that could facilitate the delivery of the final application to the end users.
Using this success, Medtronic and Cosmo IMD are creating new opportunities to help developers build new, relevant and responsible AI for the GI Genius module, helping physicians benefit from tools developed by the expert community for a wide range of clinical uses.
