The YouTuber was booked by Karnataka police in connection with the ongoing Dharmasthala murder case for allegedly releasing a misleading video generated using artificial intelligence.
The video is said to have misrepresented facts related to a sensational complaint recently filed by a former hygiene worker. In his complaints, the man forced the accusations relating to Dalmassara's prominent religious institutions to dispose of human remains for several years.
According to police, YouTuber Sameer MD has been booked in the Indian Criminal Code and various related sections of Bharatiya nyaya Sanhita, with charges such as creating false evidence and providing false information about violations and statements. The complaint has been filed at Dharmasala Police Station in Dakshina Kannada District. Officials confirmed that the videos circulating on YouTube contained manufactured content that was not found in official complaints or judicial records, contributing to public anxiety.
The video is linked to the Sadri case that emerged earlier this month, claiming that between 1995 and 2014, he was forced to dispose of the bodies of murder victims as sanitation workers in the Dalmassara Temple administration.
In his signed complaint dated July 3, the man said that he was ordered to bury or burn the body all over Dalmassara and faced death threats in order to resist. He said he had been assaulted and warned that if he revealed what he saw, his family would be killed. He claimed that his predecessor “vanished” under similar circumstances and said he eventually fled Dharmastara in 2014 after alleged attacks on the woman's family by someone connected to his boss.
In response, the police confirm that they have registered the case under section 211(a) of Bharatiya nyaya sanhita and seek the court's permission to excavate the site mentioned in the complaint. The police chief ensured that the investigation was conducted with confidentiality and rigour.
The same YouTuber was previously booked to create a similar video about rape and student murder in 2012. The Karnataka High Court has since ordered the video to be deleted. Located about 75km from Mangaluru, Darmassara is home to the revered Shiva temple, and the town was previously the news of the death of a student in 2012.
