It was found that a Brazilian tourist who fell into an active volcano while hiking in Indonesia was killed by rescue workers. Juliana, a 26-year-old pole dancer, was on a trip to Southeast Asia and had already passed through Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. In Indonesia, she joined a hiking group and rose to Mount Rinjani, Indonesia's second largest volcano. Here she was separated from the group and plunged into the deep by hundreds of feet. A video was released showing Juliana alive and moving, giving hope to her family. However, it took the rescue team almost four days to reach her. By then it was too late. Her parents accused authorities in Brazil and Indonesia of not being fully prepared on time. Juliana's family reportedly showed her a video of the rescue team taking food, water and warm clothes.
“A team from Indonesia's search and rescue agency found the bodies of Brazilian tourists after being obstructed by the region's bad weather, terrain and visibility conditions after four days of work,” a statement from the Brazilian government read.
The family says they urged rescuers to work quickly to save Juliana. Her sister said officials misled them with a fake video of a rescue team reaching Juliana. “Every video made is a lie that includes one of the rescues that arrived at her. The video was trained to look like that with this message associated with it.
Her father, Manoel Mullins, told Brazilian TV Globo before leaving the lack of communication between Indonesia and Brazilian authorities towards Indonesia. He claimed at the time that officials had no idea where she was and that they had not reached her. “She has not received water, she hasn't received food. She has been alone for over 36 hours. They don't seem to even know where she is now,” he said.

Juliana paid $150 to join six tourists and tour guides from an active volcano on Lombok. She faced problems on the hike and was left behind by her tour guide, her sister Mariana told the Brazilian news magazine Fantastic. Mariana said the park told them what had happened. “After contacting people who work in the park, we learned about this. Juliana was in this group and she was very tired and asked to stop for a while. They continued, and the guide was not with her,” she said.
Her sister further said she got lost and didn't know where to go or what to do. The guide returns when he sees Juliana not yet back to them and discovers that she has fallen deep by. However, the guide, identified as Ali Mastofa, told Brazilian outlet O Globo that he had never left Juliana but was waiting for her.
“I searched for her at the last rest area, but I couldn't find her. I said I would wait in front of her. I told her to rest,” he said. He then saw the flashlight of the valley, about 150 metres deep, and heard Juliana's voice call for help. Musthofa tells Juliana to wait for her help.
