Meta and Oakley launch smart glasses with 3K video and meta AI integration

AI Video & Visuals

Meta has collaborated with Oakley to officially unveil the new smart glasses, marking the first high-tech forward product aimed at athletes and sports enthusiasts. The limited edition Meta Oakley HSTN Smart Glasses will be available for pre-order for $499 starting July 11th, starting at $399 later this summer.

Built on top of Oakley's HSTN design (pronounced “How-Stuhn”), the glasses feature a front-facing camera that can record 3K video, open-ear speakers, and a built-in microphone. Users can take photos, listen to music, and make hands-free calls while engaging in meta AI via voice commands. AI assistants can respond to contextual queries, capture media, provide real-time translations, and even provide information about their surroundings.

According to Meta, the new smart eyewear will have twice the battery life of the Metaray-Ban, offering up to 8 hours of use and 19 hours in standby. A 20-minute charge will restore 50% of the battery, and the included case can offer an additional charge of up to 48 hours on the move.

The Oakley Meta HSTN Smart Glasses are available in black with warm gray and polarized black lenses with Ruby lenses, as well as six frames and lenses combinations. Certain models include Oakley's PRIZM lens technology for improved visibility in a variety of light conditions. Prescription compatibility is also available at an additional cost.

“This is the first product for both athletes and fans,” Meta said in a statement. The launch will expand the long-term partnership with Meta's Oakley and Ray-Ban owner Essilorluxottica. The company's 2024 financial report shows that over 2 million Metaray Banglass have been sold so far.

HSTN glasses will initially be released in countries including the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France and Italy, and will be released in India, Mexico and in the UAE, where they will receive them later in the year.
