IIT will study 1 AI, machine learning courses for UG, and PG students will become required

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-D) has recently mandated at least one course in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for each of its 19 undergraduate and 42 graduate programs.

The course will begin with the next academic session in July, lab management officials said.

This introduction is part of a large curriculum review that took place 12 years later, aimed at students to “structured pathways to using AI” and “catching on industrial trends.”

Each undergraduate and graduate program has its own AI-related papers. Some AI and ML courses are taught at the Institute, but this is the first time the Institute has required all students to take these courses.

“All departments are asked to ensure that there is at least one paper related to AI and ML, so that all graduates know the subject.” Hindus.

The initiative was introduced after receiving feedback from students and alumni, he added.

This course ranges from “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence” to “AI in Computational Biology” to “Fiber and Textile Engineering in Engineering Science” to “AI in Computational Biology.”

Dean Narayanan D. Kruru said that students teach AI in their respective fields of study and give them an “introduction to AI.”

“For example, in a graduate course entitled Machine Learning in Textiles and Textile Engineering, students can apply ML to thread and fabric engineering and textile chemistry,” Cour said.

Professor Shouri Chatterjee, Associate Dean of the Curriculum, said students can also be ethically taught how to use AI.

“The scale of AI is rapidly expanding and students are already dealing with it. This gives them a structured pathway and makes them students the way they use it productively and ethically,” he said.

In 2024, the director established a committee to develop guidelines for the use of AI in education, research and exams.

A report released in October 2024 shows that 80% of students (of the 427 surveyed) use the generator AI tool, and nearly 81% use the tool several times a week.
