Adobe launches standalone apps for generating AI videos, images

AI Video & Visuals

Adobe Inc released standalone on Tuesday Firefly Mobile applications on Android and iOS are trying to shine a big spotlight on image generation and editing tools powered by artificial intelligence.

The new app offers features such as Generation Filling, Generation Deployment, Text to Image, Text to Video, Video to Video and more.

Generation filling tool makes it easy to remove distracting elements in your photo – Or add something to an image that didn't exist in the first place. Generic Expand uses AI to stretch photos to fit a variety of aspect ratios. This will help you post on social media.

The text-based creation flow is similar to similar products from Openai Inc, Alphabet Inc's Google and Meta Platforms Inc's generated videos.

These features have long been woven into Adobe's creative software suite, including Photoshop and Lightroom, but the dedicated Firefly app puts them front and center, allowing consumers to experiment with AI tools through a more streamlined interface.

For Adobe, it is a more intensive showcase of what the company's latest AI models can do. Adobe models are used by default, but authors can choose to use Openai or Google models for text-to-image, text-to-video, and inter-image projects.

The Firefly app is free to download, but Adobe requires credits to generate content. Those without an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription can sign up for a new plan of $4.99 per month for additional credits and unlock the app's “premium” feature, an Adobe spokesman told Bloomberg News.
